So I say to the guy and his adult son, "I don't know anybody who collects foreign stamps" and "this box of plate blocks are the real value" Turns out to be an upper Midwest treasure . I was in shock for the next few months, and ordering Scott catalogs, The initial boy collector was born in 1860, his Grandson just died in 2024, age 95. His sister had given the collection to fellow college professor and then got stored in grocery store outside warehouse. Long story short, at an outdoor auction buying a few albums, I was asked if I would buy their two box collection, so I oblidged. The family's history is quite a study in their corporations, Gov. offices, and land conservations.

Welcome back. What have you done with the collection since the time you previously posted about it in 2020?

Have you had any luck selling individual items online like you had suggested you might, or have you kept it intact? The stamp market has changed a lot in the past 5 years, maybe the auction houses will have a different interest in the album today than they did before. It is quite a story, and maybe some of the collateral material about the family would add additional historical interest beyond the stamps themselves.

I was honestly that clueless. 2 years prior to the Scott vol 1, I had purchased a US album from a meticulous relative's estate,,,cat value 50k. 50 years prior in jr high, collecting consisted of trips to the post office for those beautiful new plate blocks. Now have 4 stock books for foreign pre 1900. A nice interest in retirement to sit in company with a great lady .

I have some covers with the family living in NYC,probably near a stamp dealer. The 3 generations covered 164 years, exceptional longevity period of collecting. I still may get some opinions from auction houses to formulate a solid direction in a sale down the road.. still enjoying the hunt for collectibles, minerals, gospel music and stamps…..
