In many of the discussions I've read on the forum, collectors have said that this or that stamp was their personal favorite. That sort of thing interests me very much, so I thought it might make an interesting thread. What is your single all-time favorite stamp? Can you pick just one?

My personal favorite is (and always has been) Algeria Scott #247 (Yvert & Tellier #297), issued for the XIX Congrès International de Géologie in Algiers on 8/11/1952, and featuring an ammonite fossil, Berbericeras sekikensis. It was designed and engraved by Pierre Gandon. There's something about the overall design that (to me, anyway) invokes an exotic feeling. Not to mention that fossil collecting and stamp collecting were my two youthful passions, so this was a nice crossover!

Gotta be this beauty: US 1923 regular issue $5 "America" Scott #573. I have a MNH single, but this is always on my want list.

How can anyone just pick one? I understand that there are collectors of one specific issue, or one specific stamp. But for most of us.......

Obviously a tough call as there are so many beautiful stamps, especially early engraved issues. If I had to pick one, probably this (not my stamp):

Beautiful stamp, PartTime. I always loved the stamp and then when I got my own copy, it is just even more striking and beautiful in real life in front of you. Absolutely gorgeous design and colour.

Totally unfair question. My magpie mind bounces from image to image like the proverbial India Rubber Ball. However, I will go with the first one that flashed up when I saw the topic. The Canadian 1928 engraved 50 cent Bluenose shall be my favourite, for a while, maybe, I think.

After answering this topic, it dawned on me that I can say my 2nd most favourite stamps in the one used in all my postings. This is the 36 cent Steamer "Segwun" Scott #1139.

"Segwun" is Ojibwe for "Spring Time". This steamer still plies the lakes here in Muskoka.

Should have thought of this earlier <G>
