Hello Everyone, I am new here and would like to introduce myself. I'm from a small island and recently found a deep interest in vintage postage stamps while exploring the old stamp bags my mother had kept at home.

When I was about 7 years old, we had a bag full of world vintage stamps. At that time, our house was in poor condition with a leaking roof. During one heavy rainfall, all the stamps were at risk of being destroyed. My mother managed to save most of them, though sadly some were lost. Thankfully, hundreds, if not thousands, of stamps were preserved.

Later on, my mother was able to rebuild the house, and only recently I rediscovered these stamps. Since then, I've developed a strong interest in philately. Although I'm still learning and progressing slowly, I've started working on a website where I write about these stamps and share what I'm discovering in the world of philately.

I'm happy to be here, to connect with fellow philatelists, and to learn from your experiences and collections.

The initial discoverer of that cover bought it for 5 rupees in 1897 at an Indian bazaar. The exchange rate then was 15 rupees to the British pound, so (using the MeasuringWorth site to calculate, and picking the 'real price' figure) that's equivalent to £50 today! It sells in 1898 for £1,600- equivalent to £240,000 now.

Okay, but what I'm curious about- what kind of Indian bazaar was that, where a merchant was selling used stamps for high prices? Or was Mr Howard newly arrived in the country, and hadn't yet got a grasp of the money?
