I just found this is an old time collection. The previous owner said it was one of three known ? I cannot find any in PF/PSE databases and Seigel has one cover listed in their power search. Can anyone shed any light on how scarce this item is ?

Sorry but that is too broad of statement to be useful. Three know what? 505 covers are scarce and when you begin to slice and dice them into smaller groups, only three known is not uncommon.

https://stampauctionnetwork.com/y/y121548.cfm see Siegel lot 2387.
From there find the article mentioned, then find Kevin's updated (post-2012 update)

Edit:
By the way Siegel Power Search returns 38 entries for "505" "Cover" which can include duplicates. It is not a complete listing of 505s. For example, my 505 cover (PFC) is not included nor yours.

Registered 4 ounce treaty rate...10c +2 +2+2+2 = 18 cent postage and fees paid by 18 cents of valid postage.

Edit to change a + to =.

Hope this photo is better. the SCF optimizer doesn't work for me all the time.
I redid the power search using 505 and cover ( I previously lust entered 505 cover) and found the entries. Thanks

None of the tying spots look convincing. The cancellations are also questionable. 505's on covers aren't cheap. This one needs a certificate.

I must respectfully disagree.

That is for sure, but 505 is the cheapest of the five cent red error versions.

Now what I would like to see is a photo of the markings on the back.
