I'm sorting out a large collection of late nineteenth century covers, nearly all lower value (but still interesting) stuff.
About a half dozen of these appear to be Scott #134, but I have no experience with early U.S. stamps, so I thought I'd throw a couple of examples up on SCF to see what people knowledgeable in this area think.
Not sure how to make out the grill on these on cover (if it's at all possible).
My old 2005 catalogue values #134 at $200 on cover, which would be far above what anything else in the lot is worth, so I'm strongly suspecting I'm making a mistake somehow (especially as there are several of them). The covers are, as you can see, in somewhat rough shape.
Is the crescent in the 'pearl to left of the numeral 1' (as noted in Scott) simply faint (or faded)? The illustration in the book makes it look rather prominent, but the scans look like maybe it's there, especially in the last one in this series. That would make these #156 (which is more likely).
Thanks in advance for any opinions!
