I can't seem to find this sheet in Scott or even the stamps individually. I looked under 1972, but nothing. Unfortunately the sheet is badly damaged on the back as the glue got stuck to some black paper. If anyone can help please to identify it would be much appreciated. Cheers. Marc

Just a little pointer - when you see denomination + another value, automatically think semipostal and look at the back of the country section where the numbers start with B.

I'm starting to think that the black color double print of this souvenir block I mention doesn't exist at all! What does the new Michel German spezial catalog say, can someone share a scan? I have info only from my old 1989 netto spezial, so any update is very much welcome. thanks |

I'm afraid you're not quite right, the black color should be double printed on the entire image size of the block and that's the rare one for which it's highly valued. Your block shows the same space (right side as in the internet links I added in my previous post) double impression or transfer but it's sure not a double print. Double print is a stamp that has passed through the press twice. |

hello iStamp, where do you find a high value for a full double black? and what is the difference between double impression and "double print"?

Hi stamperix I believe I saw it with catalog value of 10k eur in Michel and as you can see the price was blank for this variety (double print of black) at least till 1989.
Double impression is stamp on which design/image or a portion of the design, is doubled. A double impression is not the same as a double printing or double transfer. Vs Double print stamp that has passed through the press twice.

I don't think that this was the value as in newer versions this double black is just something between 100 and 150 EUR.
I think double impression and double print is the same, but I am not an English native speaker. Different things would be double transfer / re-entry / color shift and so on. |

That's why I asked if somebody can post a scan of the latest Michel German specialized catalog showing this souvenir block from 1972. http://www.usstamps.org/resources/glossary/Double impression: a stamp on which the design, or a portion of the design, is doubled. This occurs when a sheet slips against an offset blanket, or when the press is stopped, relaxing the tension on the web. Double impressions are freaks. A double impression is not the same as a double printing or double transfer. Double transfer: a plate variety in which a portion of the design is doubled, that is, it appears twice. A double transfer occurs on engraved stamps when a design is " rocked" into a plate from a transfer roll in such a way that the rocked images are out of alignment. Thus, if the siderographer is not careful, the rocking in of the design will cause a part of the design to appear more than once. Sometimes a double transfer on a plate is discovered and is " burnished" out. But if this process is not totally successful, some amount of doubling of the design may remain. All sheets printed from a plate with a double transfer will show the double transfer. Thus, the double transfer will be a constant variety. Double print: a stamp that has passed through the press twice. |
