This 1883 Manila to Paris letter appears to have 3 copies of STAMPWORLD Nr. 55 affixed. It is a 10-centime stamp showing the image of King Afonso XII. Those stamps were first issued in 1875-7.

This item was found online at an auction place. I am curious about Philippine items.

Philippines Newspaper stamps on Palo pages. The early issues are plentiful and inexpensive.

Another image grabbed from an auction catalogue that I found interesting.

You can tell the Palo pages are expensive Steiner knock-offs - that page cries out for the space to be used effectively with a decent lay-out.

One observation with the Palo and other premium priced albums is that do not provide spaces for more varieties. If someone is going to pay a premium for the album they would also collect the varieties.\

The border is slightly larger than Steiner with a lot of space on the left space as if the page was designed for a post design than a 3 ring binder.

Does anyone have an image of salmon colored Spanish era Philippines postal card? Salmon is a pinkish orange color but not sure how they age.

Ha. I have the book.

Here is an example. For IPSS 16, there are two colors: yellow and salmon.

Since these do not look yellow I guess that leaves them as salmon but some yellow age to a darker shade.

MANILA, P.I. JUN 9 6 PM 05

The year date appears to read 15. However, on the entire cover you can see that this registered letter to Germany was sent in 1905.

STAMPWORLD catalogue number for this Philippine stamp is 241. The definitive series was issued during 1903-04. The overprint is on US (STAMPWORLD) number 196 which was issued in 1894. The stamp is very well centered. The addressee was securing a copy of this stamp for his collection as the mailing cost was overpaid.

This individual has provided us with a glimpse of the postal history of Davao region and a source of entire used booklet panes of his period (1931).

The cover shown below (front & back) was mailed to Samoa and redirected twice.

The Journey:

OC 01 (MAIN) POST OFFICE - guessing that could be Manila
NO 20 PAGO PAGO SAMOA redirected
DE 09 SAN FRANCISCO
DE 14 FULLERTON PA redirected

Alway happy to see covers from the Mindanao Estate Co. or other Davao postal history.

Manila to Batavia via Hong Kong 1863 - Ship Letter

Writing to Morgan & Melbourne & Co, in Batavia from Manila, it was more reliable going north to Hong Kong and then catching a vessel going south to what is now Indonesia. Probably too many independent operators using a more direct route, but do you suppose many of them were seamen of an unsavory disposition?
