While examining some Belgian examples from the 1865-67 issue featuring the bust of Albert I, a question arises regarding the note in the Scoot catalog about perforations. Scoot states that there are perforations of x15 and 14.5x14, and that the value between them "differs." My question, since I don't have a specialized catalog, is: Does the value differ significantly? Does it differ by a greater or lesser amount from the values in the standard catalog?
Although Scott has its uses, it's always better to use catalogues produced in the country where the stamps are issued. For Belgium I use the bilingual (Dutch/French) catalogue OBP/COB (= Officiële Postzegelcatalogus/Catalogue Officiel de Timbre Poste) 2019, a beautiful catalogue and not to expensive if memory serves me (don't hold me to this). For this issues there are three varieties: #17-21, line perf 14.5x14; 17a-21a, comb perf. 15; 21b (1 franc), comb perf. 14.
The prices on the first two series used are not dramatically different: the 10¢ value, for example, is €3 for 17, €2.50 for 17a. There ARE dramatic differences for those stamps mint, especially in MNH condition: €525 for 17 but €340 for 17a. If you are concerned about a specific stamp, I'd be glad to send you the information I have!
Thank you so much for your reply! I wasn't really looking for specific information about a particular value; it was more out of simple curiosity about how much they might differ...Scoot leaves the mystery hanging in the air if you don't have the specialized catalog.
Your better off if you get the Scott Classic ,this volume breaks it down to separate listings . On both the perf 15 and the 14 1/2 X 14 ,these are thick paper and thin paper also 1F has a shade that you should know about . difference .
