Everyone knows that 75 is red brown and 76 is brown, but it has also been discussed here and Bill Weiss explained that the scroll work on #75 looks fuzzy and looks sharp on the 76.

Does anyone know of anything online that can back this up? I sold what I believe is one of the nicest 75s I've seen but the buyer is now claiming it is a 76. I would like to send him something that might help.

All I can say is that when you look at dozens of 75/76 images on Power Search what Bill said bears out. The 76 is super crisp in the scrollwork compared to the 75. Between the color and the scrollwork, I 100% agree that you sold a 75.

PS: Too bad my opinion means nothing to your buyer.

Phade - Quality of images is everything when you want good, accurate answers to a question. The image you posted isn't that. Can you provide better?

The bottom middle stamp might be a 75, but only because scans are not a great way to determine shades. It probably isn't, but it might be.

having trouble uploading, whats the best DPI to scan at. I normally do between 1200dpi & 2400dpi depending on singles or multiple or on cover.

That stamp looks a lot more like a 76 in this scan.

Phade - Since the bottom middle one is the only one in question, just do a scan of that single stamp - you can do a higher dpi for a single stamp than for a group of 6
