I just started delving into the Machin Series. I know there is a ton of information out there and have visited every site I can find. Adminware being one of the most thorough.
What I have not found is, information on mounts.
I've been using the mystic m636 and cutting them at 25 mm wide for the small ones.

Would love to know what other collectors are using.

21 x 24 for standard, 25 x 29 for self-adhesive is what UK dealers advertise.

The self-adhesives come in horizontal and vertical formats. There are the larger engraved high-value Machins, there are the still larger photogravure high-value Machins, and there are the matrix-code Machins that are quite large.

Two sizes do not cover the range of Machin formats.

If you collect mint stamps, the self-adhesives of any format will be of variable size, depending on how they were seprated.

Thanks all for the info. I have devised a method of removing the self adhesives that is working well and leaving the security features intact. I am having a rough time locating those used on paper though.
With the tarrif war prices for outside the US are un-reasonable.
Does a regular letter come with those fees now?

I purchased mounts in strips and cut to length. Until the self-adhesive era, you mostly used one size. Strips are more affordable than precut style.

I prefer top loading mounts from HAWID but have also taken split back style and cut in half, I like Prinz/Scott for split back types.

I do not use hinges.

I've noticed that when removing hinged used stamps from albums the hinge comes away with the stamp, as if the hinge is more securely attached to it than the album page. I think this may be due to a slight gum residue on the stamp.

All my Machins are in stock books and stock sheets. I tried arranging them attractively on album pages, but every time I learned something new about Machins I found that there were previously unsuspected gaps to be filled, and so all the mounts and pages were wasted.

Consider the humble ½p turquoise-blue. In the SG Simplified catalogue, it's one stamp. In the SG Concise, it's five stamps. In the SG Specialised, it's nine stamps, not counting minor variations. In the Deegam Handbook it's forty-two stamps, not counting minor variations. If your Machin journey takes you all the way from Simplified to Deegam (and perhaps beyond!), you'll spend more money on mounts than on stamps before you've finished.

For these reasons, I recommend not mounting your Machins until you're quite sure that you don't want any more of them.

My plan thus far is to complete a 101 Basic as outlined and freely printable at the adminware site. Whilst obtaining the stamps for that setting aside others for a concise set. I print my own pages, so that fixes that, and re-use mounts from other albums. They steam off really fast.
Any thoughts on getting self adhesives in used bulk?
