Recently I purchased part of someone else's collection and in the material I bought I found this note. I guess he was in the process of getting precanceled stamps from different post offices by writing the postmasters in those towns.
I found this one for Columbia S.C.

It would be nice to see the other side of this letter. It may better explain what we are trying to observe.

Here It is. The questions I would have would be are according to the USPS website the Postmaster / person in charge was located in Sumter SC. A close town to Columbia SC. Would they have a canceling device for Columbus? And second would the canceling device contain more cancels to do a whole page instead of 10 spaces.

It's clearly a child's letter so why not cooperate with her? No big deal, I'd say, especially to do it for a young person. It does not cost the government anything.

Have you thought about the practical aspects of having a cancel "Hand" stamp larger than 10 ?
(The 10-stamp size, as shown used on this letter, was typical. We're talking hand stamps to be held in postal clerk's drawer or hanging in counter cubicle for those actually used for mailers. Think how big a 10x10 block would be! Those "locked up" printing frames are the domain of local printers that did the vast majority of local precancels for actual volume business users.)
