The Scott number for this Costa Rica stamp without the "Renta Postales" overprint is 127. I can't find a specific catalog number for this stamp with the overprint. Any idea where I can find a catalog number for this?

What is the overprint for ? Could it be used to show payment and telling the postal staff that it is for tracking a piece of mail ? Check a specialized catalog .

Compulsory tax on books. Scroll down to postal taxes.

My understanding is that in 1927, Costa Rica issued five postal tax stamps by overprinting "Renta Postales" on regular postage stamps. These postal tax stamps were used to pay the 10-centimo tax on books mailed through the postal system. However, this stamp is not one of the five postal tax stamps.

Yes, NSK, the link you provided does reference four definitives of 1923-26 overprinted "Renta Postales" to pay for the mandatory tax on books. These four stamps are:

Costa Rica Scott RA1a – 2 c on definitive stamp overprinted Renta Postales
Costa Rica Scott RA1b – 5 c on definitive stamp overprinted Renta Postales
Costa Rica Scott RA1c – 10 c on definitive stamp overprinted Renta Postales
Costa Rica Scott RA1d – 20 c on definitive stamp overprinted Renta Postales

None of these stamps are an overprint of Scott 127.

It's Scott RA1C, which is a 1col value.

I'm working from a very old Scott catalogue which might explain why I don't see an entry for RA1C.

2024 Scott Classic Specialized RA1C. Value $10.00 used. The color is off though. It should be olive green, the scan does not look like olive green.

To me, it looks very olive-green. It could hide itself in a bowl of green olives served with a glass of Tinto Pesquera.
