OK, Been going through some stamps that have been in my mother's attic for 70+ years. I don't know what this is. It looks like the wrong color as well as offset. Comments?

An offset would show the mirror image.

It looks like overinking and contamination, if it is genuine.

The folds show through on the front.

Likely. Since perforations are added after printing, there is no offset printing in that sense. And there is no trace of ink offset on the back.

I think 3193zd is correct, there is a faded red grid cancel under the smeary black one.

This appears more than simply "overinked". Something chemical was almost certainly involved.
