Jorgesurcl, thanks for the extra info! I just found a PDF on line which gives details of an exhibit on these Argentina stamps, and they mention that one of the items is - A large engraver's first progress proof (ex-Bose, ex- Nüesch, from engraver's estate), one of three existing. So that too would point firmly in Nuesch' direction.
Vignette engraved by WILLIAM JUNG (1895-1950) Frame & lettering engraved by WILLIAM H. MAPLE (William Hartwick Maple) Scroll engraved by CARROLL MABIE (1895-1944) Numerals 30 and words "Treinta centavos" engraved by CHARLES LOCHMILLER
80cts. Carmine red and black
Same engravers (Vignette, Frame & lettering and Scroll) but numerals 80 and words "Ochenta centavos" engraved by HONINGS
This is a proof of Frame & lettering engraved by MAPLE and Scroll engraved by MABIE
LOCHMILLER and HONINGS worked over the blank frame
Can anyone tell me if JAC Harrison engraved all the Portugal 1924 Camoes issue or only some?
It looks like lots of Spanish and Portuguese stamps were engraved. I think I need to get the SG catalogue for Spain and Portugal to find out which stamps were engraved and by whom.
Strider, all are engraved. The last two images, those with the highest denominations, were engraved by George R. Fairweather. The are of Camões's tomb and his monument. (A total of six denominations.) All 31 stamps of the series were printed by Waterlow & Sons.
I came across the following short videos on YouTube where engravers Yves Baril, Jorge Peral and Thomas Hipschen speak about their work. OK, banknotes not stamps but it is interesting to hear and see the craftsmen.

My previous posting related to banknote engraving by those who also undertook/undertake stamp engraving, but I have managed to get back truly 'on topic' by finding a great 6m55s close-up YouTube video on the engraving of a Greek stamp series from 2011.
The name of the engraver is not revealed (or at least I do not think so, as it is all in Greek!) on the video titling, but a bit of research on the stamp being engraved reveals that both the stamps and the miniature sheet were created by the Greek engraver and professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts, Yannis Gourzis, and were printed by Giesecke & Devrient Matsoukis S.A. in Greece.
Go to

to watch the video (no speech, so no language barriers, just background music) showing engraving, preparing the paper, inking the die and printing a proof.
Information about Yannis Gourzis, engraver of stamps in previous post, as found this morning online at various sites....
Current position: Professor at ASFA (Athens School of Fine Arts), Greece between October 1992 and the present day. Previously worked at: Bank of Greece, between December 1984 and October 1992 as an engraver. Previously worked at: his own studio between 1973 and 1990, presumably as an engraver, or possibly as/also as a printmaker. Education: Anotati Scholi Kalon Technon where he studied printmaking between 1974 and 1979. Personal Website: currently under construction, so empty, but worth looking at in the coming months, I guess. Go to http://www.engraver.gr/
Great finds, those You Tube videos! Here is one of the 2011 Greek stamps:
Question for jorgesurcl (and others too of course): I've seen loads of engraved items from Chile on ebay, referring to the Memory Book. Dated 1964? Any idea what these are, what this book is? It seems most (if not all) of the items were engraved by José Moreno Benavente.
AKPhilately - Yes, most of those items were engraved by Jose Moreno.
Casa de Moneda (Chilean Mint) published every 10 years a book (Memoria) which realizes the work done in that period. It includes information about stamps, banknotes, coins, directors, staff, technological changes, infrastructure, etc.
The book also include decoratives sheets with stamps and banknotes images (printed in recess from the original dies) and portraits of historical personalities The first Memoria was issued in 1934 (period 1923-33), and since that year a new edition was issued every 10 years.
Thanks for the info, jorgesurcl! I now have three of such sheets and am trying to link the stamps to the sheets, but am not getting very far.
The Bello engraving is easy, as it goes with the similar 1946 set. The seller dated this as a 1964 sheet, but if you say that those Memoria books only deal with the ten years before publication, then that seems odd. Would you know when this sheet was published? Luckily, the engraving is signed by Moreno so that's easy.
My second sheet is the Cardinal Caro engraving, which goes well with the 1967 set engraved by Moreno.
Again, the date of the stamps (1967) does not correspond with the date of the sheet (said to be 1964), so the same question applies here: do you know from which year this sheet is? This sheet is not signed by Moreno but as the stamps are his, may I presume that this engraving, too, is by Moreno? And if not, do you know who did engrave it?
My third and final sheet is the one with the six stamps on, again said to be from 1964.
I'm doing alright with the bottom three: Isabella from 1952, Araucana from 1972 and Domeyko from 1954, all engraved by Moreno. The dates once again question the date of the sheet, though.
I know the top left stamp is from 1959 but my SG catalogue does not mention its engraver. Was it Moreno?
The centre stamp, too, is in the SG catalogues (1960/1), but again no engraver mentioned. Moreno?
The top right stamp I can't seem to find at all. Is that an issued stamp or maybe just an unadopted essay? Is it by Moreno?
Sorry I have so many questions, but you're so knowledgeable, jorgesurcl, so I hope you don't mind me asking them!
AKPhilately - Those 3 sheets were included in the book (Memoria) of 1963-73 Andres Bello (centenary of his death) and Cardinal Caro (centenary of his birth) are commemoratives sheets and were engraved by Jose Moreno.
All the stamps of the third sheet were also engraved by Moreno. The green stamp (Francisco de Miranda) = unfinished die of a stamp that finally was not issued.
