Is there a catalog reference for these folders or do I go by the stamps only? I have several from the 1970s.

Hi, I've seen that the Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps, lists booklet panes for some issues. Perhaps these will be listed if they were produced and sold by an official postal authority.

Definetly a presentation folder, for parlimentarians, upu members? They are not listed in the Unitrade or Trajan catalogue. Maybe they could be.

Yeah, it seems significant they are embossed with the Coat of Arms which suggests a parliamentary connection. The sixteen I have cover 1974-76.

Maybe analogous, the Uni-Safe FDC catalog references presentation FDCs with the Coat of Arms that were issued by the Postmaster General during the 1960s-70s.

OK makes sense. Still curious as to who gave them out...

I believe these were 'Launch Cards' and were given out at the presentation ceremony for new issues. I seem to recall corresponding with folks a few years ago, and I think they were produced in the late 1960's to mid 1970's and they look very similar to the pages of the Vol I and Vol II of the 1976 Olympic Thematic Packs. Post Office ephemera such as these cards are a great curiosity, but I am not sure if many from the mainstream collectors are interested in this type of material.

Its OK, I'm interested! "Launch Cards" sounds like a fitting title. I also have a couple "Commemorative Stamp Launch" FDCs, presented in Edmonton where my father-in-law was a postal official.

I can understand the Commonwealth Games cover but the Fleming/Bernier Edmonton launch (along with l'Islet-Sur-Mer QC) was a mystery until some digging revealed Fleming was through Edmonton in 1872 while conducting the CPR rail survey. I was aware of Fleming's other stellar achievements but his visit to my town I did not know!

I really like the 'stamp launch' FDC's. It makes sense to me that the Post Office might evolve to utilizing a product they are already producing (the official FDC's) to replace these launch cards (needed to be specially produced for the occassion)

Do you have other FDC's with the 'stamp launch' stickers on them? I wonder if I could find my lists of Launch Cards and see if they had any overlap, or when the acual ending date was!

Canada Post ephemera mystery!

A quick look thru the google interwebs, has found a couple of more cards. They are both from a dealer in Ontario.

First is Canada 714, the 12c Parliament. It appears the FDC was inserted into the embossed folder, which makes sense as it was a formal occassion

Next is Canada 715, the 14c Parlliament and 716 the 14c Cameo Queen

These were issued in 1977, and 1978 respectively so I wonder if these Launch FDC ended in the late 70's or early 1980's?

thanks for showing this condor159, similar but different! The colour and imprint are similar to my folders and signed by the Postmaster General lends credibility to the theory these were issued by that office.
