Just picked up a Unitrade catalogue so I know this is Scott #215 Windsor Castle. (Edit: sorry, got it wrong in the title). Noticed a series of punched holes in the body of the stamp, some haven't gone through just left an impression. Can't figure out what letters or symbols it represents, perhaps a cancellation?

And another! Scott #219 with more holes, some in the margin. Baffled because they don't seem to represent any letters or numbers.

A colored background would help us help you.

Do you know about perfins? Perforated initials? Often used by companies for security purposes (so employees don't walk off with stocks of stamps), and sometimes used by governments, too (e.g., "official use" stamps).

Agreeing with Cjd: perfins.

More information about perfins is available from The Perfins Club and The Perfin Society.

Thanks, will research perfins.

Edit: found a wonderful source online from the British North America Philatelic Society on Canadian perfins called simply the Perfin Handbook. Massive download to go through now, but I took advice and made another image with black background. Many perforations didn't go through so I'll do some touch-ups to the image and make them appear as well.
