Sorry about the poor scan. Sometimes the auto tone feature does a really bad job. If anyone knows where these are from and Scott numbers would be much appreciated. Cheers. marc

Put it down as a Charities for war widows, Cinderella from Greece, Marc. The inverted V, is the currency of Greece, Lepta so you can't be far off.
I checked all my cinderellas, (your stamp looks familiar) but I could not positively ID it.
A 1912-1913 historian may be of help here :)
a quik google
The term Balkan Wars refers to the two wars that took place in South-eastern Europe in 1912 and 1913. The First Balkan War broke out on 8 October 1912 when Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro and Serbia (see Balkan League), having large parts of their ethnic populations under Ottoman sovereignty, attacked the Ottoman Empire, terminating its five-century rule in the Balkans in a seven-month campaign resulting in the Treaty of London.

Thanks Rod and Thanks Tony as well. I didn't see it the first time. I think maybe Tony added that info in later. Anyway, it sure is a real stamp I see. I was having my doubts as well, but it doesn't have the usual Greek writing we are used to seeing. |

This is strange. I just realized that the Greek stamp posted here on this thread is one that was meant for another thread. The stamps that were meant for this thread were a 3 stamp set from GB from 1957 - Scott # 334-336.
If you look at the first response above you will see halflizard said the stamps were from GB. So it seems I had the right photo there originally and then it changed to the Greek stamp photo somehow. I am not sure how this happened, but truth is stranger than fiction and it was halflizard's tip off that helped me find the original stamps under GB.
I didn't save the original scan of the GB stamps so I can't repost it right now, but I will do it later. Has photos switched themselves like this before in the past from other posts made within the same day? Just curious. |

Marc, if you post an image say...Cuba001 then say three weeks later, in another post you post another image "Cuba001", all your images called Cuba001 will change to your last posted image. utterly confused yet ? That's why, all my images I post are just a collection of mixed letters, to avoid this eg: 00gdhdydterjmk.jpg |

Quote: eg: 00gdhdydterjmk.jpg ! So I shouldn't spend any more time trying to sort out your naming convention? |

Thanks makes sense Rod. I also run a forum myself on the SMF platform which is very similar to the Snitz forum software this site runs on, but I think SMF at least changes the name of the upload directory automatically each day so you don't have the problem you mentioned. Meaning repeat file names are not a problem from one day to the next at least.
I think what I did this time though was upload two files both named Uknown.jpg. So one removed the other as you said. Now I know how it works and I wont do that again. Will start using random file names as you suggested. I also host many of my stamp picture uploads on Photobucket.com for free since there is no per 100K file upload limit. |
