i am not afraid to ask for help when I need it ! I picked up these Nicaraugua overprinted officials at our club tonight because they looked interesting...i could not find them under Nicaraugua officials in the scott catalog and my Spanish is very poor..perhaps someone fluent in Spanish knows the word or could help me catalog them !

I think it means Butchering, To Cut Up, or something similar.

Maybe it is for a department similar to the USDA?

The only thing I saw regarding a "DESTACE" overprint on Nicaraguan officials/telegraph stamps was in a feedback listing for a sale on ebay back on March 16, 2008.

Quote:
Nicaragua 1900 DESTACE overprints official/ tele RARE! (nr 320221734433) US $51,00

I do not know if it was the same as yours, since the listing is no longer available.

The cancels look like revenue cancels, so I vote for some sort of butcher's revenue.

"Destace de cerdos" seems to be a phrase that pops up on Google.

Heads up :) It's Destace, not Destrace as in header,
no doubt a typo Phil.

Forbin 1900

I'm including a google link to a page that might come up in Spanish, If it does just use google translate then scroll down to (Article 10), It talks about a 10 centavos stamp.
I think it a official stamp that was placed on a paper by a local goverment that was used to make a claim for diseased meat.
This might shed some light on the subject of the use of this stamp.
And this might account for the overprint ( Destace )

That Forbin excerpt is interesting, but it doesn't exactly i.d. Phil's stamps. The listing appears to deal with telegraphs, but not officials, so that would seem to rule out two...

Type A overprints are read from the bottom up, I believe, and Type B from the top down. I think it is saying that Forbin #4 should have the overprint in capital, italicized letters, but it would read from top to bottom. So, Phil #4 is close, but the overprint is reading the wrong way to be Forbin #4.

Am I reading that right?

Agreed, it doesn't ID the stamps per se,
but I think we need to ID the term initially,
then the stamps ID themselves if there is not a
given or existing reference.
Going by Norseman's link, it may refer to
vetinary checks within the Pork Industry.
It's quite an interesting curiosity.

because they looked interesting...

It's comforting to note other people do this, I quite often
buy stamps at auctions because they look so, I have no
idea what they are, so I buy them
I thought I was the only one to do this.
