This is my first post, so I don't have anything profound. But I do live next door to DeKalb, Illinois

Gary,

Is it true that the most exciting thing to do in DeKalb on a Saturday night is watch the corn grow?

Welcome,

Steve

An extremely corny first post from Gary. 0 out of 10 for that one...why there was not even a mention of stamps

Anyway Gary don't worry, it can only get better from hereon in.

...to the land of stamps, covers and corn. Come and post often and show us your stuff.

Londonbus1....Poemless this evening.

Poet Londonbus1 has gone coy,
No poem for our latest new boy.
So here's one instead
From my stampaddled head
To welcome Gary from DeKalb, Illinois.

Wonderful stampgal !
Extremely corny poem and not a 'Wee dram' or 'Neeps and tatties' in sight.
Love it.

Gary must be feeling well at home.

Londonbus1....She's a poet and she didn't know it.

Thanks for the welcome folks. Londonbus1 gave me a hook, to get in this book. I'm a poet, my feet show it. They are size 14 and I can STAMP out just about anything. They are longfellows. Gary

I suppose if you really weant corny you could get a stamp with Julio Iglesias.

And having google imaged him + stamp, I have found what must be the corniest stamp site ever, elvis-stamps.com. Among other amazing finds, he sells a Kyrgyzstan miniature sheet showing Julio Iglesias, Mariah Carey et al.

Back to the original thread, there's a South Africa 1966 3c (5th anniv of republic), a Transkei 1984 9c - and the Tanganyika 1961 Uhuru 20c. Most African countries have at least one corn stamp, as it is a staple there (known as maize or mealies, though, as corn = wheat).

Hi David.

I think what I actually had in mind when I posted the Discépolo stamp was his arguably most famous poem, El Choclo (The Corncob - 1947), which has since been used as the official lyric for the Villoldo 1905 tango even though Villoldo wrote his own lyric for his composition in 1905. Incidentally, in 2000 Spain too issued a stamp with Julio Iglesias on it.

I don't have any corn chips, but I do have a corn dog. This may help Gary feel more at home, it's from IL.

So, no one is singing, "I'm as corny as Kansas in August...I'm as normal as......"(South Pacific)?
Aw, shucks!
