Straits Settlements, Malaya

I am going through remainder album pages and "buying" from myself..When it comes to Straits Settlements and Malaya I am switching catalogs and albums like mad..i guess it had to be that way particularly after the war !!

A fascinating area, and since my recent visit to Singapore, Straits Settlements is yet another area I have to collect. Especially on cover.

Are you collecting by Scott? I ended up reorganizing the Steiner pages to keep all state pages together. Scott scatters the regions in multiple sections and catalog.

For example, all Johore stamps no matter if Malaya Federation or Malaysia are together. The ironic part is the catalogue numbering is usually continuous yet not organized in the catalogue.

Scott puts Sarawak in a separate section in its catalogue. I ended up buying catalogue page pulls for all countries and now have them in one binder in protective pages. I do not need to buy 2 to 3 catalogues or continuously go back and forth between them. I can say an older Scott catalogue is just as good as a recent one in terms of older issues..prices did not seem to change much.

I am going through that process right now, working on Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak etc, I have the Singapore Catalogue open, then work with Scott.
But It's a bit tricky, Steiner of course follows, however he discriminates by using "MalayPenang" and "Malaysia Penang"

Once you get the hang of it, not too much trouble.
