Bartolomé de las Casas O.P. (c. 1484-1566) was a Spanish historian, social reformer and Dominican friar who became the first resident Bishop of Chiapas, and the first officially appointed "Protector of the Indians." Here is an image of a postal tax stamp depicting Friar Las Casas aiding an Indian boy, engraved and printed by Waterlow & Sons, Ltd., and issued by Colombia in May, 1951 to benefit the Red Cross, Scott No. RA50.
