cdnum
Iran (Persia) 1911-1912
Type 59
Ahmed Mizra Centre engraved, frame Typography.

I Kr carmine and blue

a large stock of these stamps came onto the market in 1929
unused, probably reprints.

I cannot see any overprints that would match your example.

Some other overprints, a gift of stamps from Mr Tony Macg IIRC.

I am not an expert on Iran,
but this is how I would see it.
The majority of Iran CDS's are black in colour,
yours seems to have two violet cancellations which is unusual,
and thereby may suggest a revenue usage.
The script may be part of a Revenue auxilliary marking,
Not many Overprints read up the side of a stamp.

Not much help but the best I can suggest.

Persia has always been problematic from my standpoint in terms of its early stamps. And this is because of a large number of reprints and forgeries and the fact that I don't think anyone really has a good idea as to what is original and what is reprint. Even dealers of long standing often offer items that they "think" might be original or a reprint or offer the opinion that it "probably" is a reprint--but they say it without conviction. So, I would collect Persia always with the idea that what I think is original and genuine, may in fact not be the case. This would not prevent me from filling spaces but would have an impact on how much I was willing to invest in that country

Hi Funcitypapa,

I understand what you say but in this case... because canceled, I will be surprise if it is not an original stamp. This is a used and canceled stamp.

Thank you!
