I understand from a collector friend in Ontario that the soon-to-be-released $10 Blue Whale (Oct 4) press sheet has ALREADY been sold out at Antigonish (as of Sep 20).
So much for being able to order it online!
Oh well, just saved myself $180.

Why is it an investment? There's 1.5 million stamps. The pane only has 2 stamps, amazing.
I mean, there were other high value definitive wildlife stamps in recent years that were just as beautiful and they're still for sale.
Could this be funny news?
Edit, we're talking about the limited edition 1000 uncut press sheets? Magazine says 2 per customer. So at least 500 customers have already bought everything? |

A $10.00 Blue Whale and my wife collects sealife. That should make a good addition to her collection. I can't complain though since she helps me out with my collection every now and then.
Cheers

Quote: Is there a Canada Post service that costs exactly $10? I do not think so, but it will be used on parcels or registered mail, though meters are more common here. It is a very nice stamp to get used, but I think that they will get damaged easy due to the large size, as often happens to the smaller $5 and $8 stamps. |

Prediction: this stamp - postally used - will ALWAYS be worth at least $10 - not catalogue - retail. Use them on your shipping - please!
PS Become a lobbyist. Tell your family and friends NOT to have the post office put meter labels on their Christmas parcels. And then tell those family and friends to send you the stamps back. FREE Christmas shipping! |

I am sure that a very fine used example of the $10.00 Blue Whale will command a premium, just like the $8.00 Grizzily which has a CV of $6.00 in the 2010 Unitrade.

I recently sent a big parcel that cost close to $40 and for parcel post.
It worked out to about a dollar a pound, or more than two dollars a Kilogram.
Pricey, but......not a bad rate.
After explaining what I was up to, I bought 4 panes (of recent "p" issues) and had the postal clerk cancel them. The additional cost was paid with a postage label.
I then put the panes in plastic page-covers, which I covered with thicker vapour-barrier type of plastic sheeting and used packing tape to attach the whole shootin' match to four sides of the box.
Of course, while I was attaching my stamps, I was noticed by several CP customers visiting the PO that day; and, even had a few of them ask what I was doing.
They went away muttering something about crazy stamp collectors.
I've been the centre of attention before; so, this was just another page of my life story.
The end result is my stamps went across Canada from BC to NB and arrived in excellent (Used, OG NH) condition........and they will be returned to me.
All you need is an understanding clerk. page protectors, packing tape, heavy plastic sheeting, a little patience and you can get VF used whales.......if, there are any left.

Probably because I am so adorable the post mistress let me have a sneak peek at the new counter mat that has the $10 whale and the new insect definitives (which I asked about) on it. The whale is kind of long and skinny compared to the previous high value definitives and not really that large, just long. Designed more to fit on an envelope for registered perhaps, leaving room for other writings and labels. It is designed differently also, having a solid coloured background as apposed to dots of colour or lines engraved seemingly. |

My local post office has their stock of $10 stamps (as of Sep 27) that are being released a week from today.
The colour of the "$10" changes as it is rotated in your hands (note the two different colours shown in Details).
The stamp is gigantic ... put two $5 or two $8 stamps beside each other (or one of each would work). |
