Belgium Scott 365-367 Surcharge Varieties

Accumulated large number of varieties of Belgium scott 365-367. Is there a catalog that lists all possible varieties of surcharge?, or some online resource?

in question by date and value colour etc as well as scott.

These "-10%" overprints aren't covered in too much detail in COB / OBP (the Belgium specialized catalogue). A number of different local overprint types are shown, but it just says "There are approximately 550 different overprint types. The quoted prices are for the most common types." They list the various different stamps on which local overprints are found (almost 50 different stamps), with a price for the most common local overprint type.

The typographed general overprints are listed, of course - these are the ones priced in Scott. The 1.35 Fr / 1.80 Fr / 4.50 Fr overprints from Ghislenghien are listed and priced in COB / OBP.

I don't read Flemish with ease - I struggle to try to equate the words to a German equivalent and slowly work my way through the text that way. But on a quick look, I don't see that the COB / OBP catalogue makes any mention of a more detailed catalogue for these local overprints.

The Belgian " -10% " surcharges are a study all by thyemselves.

I am not trying to contradict Ryan's posting on the 550+ types, but there are, in fact, a total of 12,292 listed in the "Catalogue National Specialise -10%"! This is a work done by Frank Van Acker, which was published in the mid 1980s. This is still the main reference work that specialists of this surcharge refer to. Without question, I am sure that a newer more up to date edition is urgently needed.

One of my specialties is this particuar surcharge and I can say that some are quite hard to procure. Bidding is generally brisk, to say the least, in online auction houses like Del Campe, located directly in Belgium. The listings in ebay are not that plentiful either and when they do crop up, bidding again is heavy.

I'm talking about three stamps from Leopold III, Crown and V issue of 1944. The three stamps 1.50fr, 2.00fr, and 5.00fr were surcharged in 1946 with "-10%" surcharge. There were many variations of that surcharge, I haven't even realized it was as many as 12,292 varieties.

12,292 varieties... very limited resources of information... and in French... makes me think if I want to get into this. Maybe I just better pile them up for now, and wait for more info to come out, preferably in English

Canada is bi-lingual but my French is rusty. I agree, it would be fantastic if a new reference book was published in English.

When I state 12,292 varieties, I mean that there were literally hundreds of towns & cities that used this surcharge and most used different stamps and had different syles. For instance, major centres, such as Brussels had a lot itself.

However, one has to be careful because some of the stamps were either surcharged with "- 10%" or was surcharged with the actual amount to be paid for a particular stamp. For example, a 5 Frank stamp may have "4.50 Fr.", because the 10% has already been deducted. A great deal of these surcharges appear un-boxed, boxed and a few in triangles. Then of course, there are your regular errors such as double surcharges etc.

Also note that these surcharges are also found on some of the Belgian stationery as well. Again with varieties but not as much as on the stamps themselves. All were introduced in 1946 (to the best of my knowledge).

Needless to say, one can speand a lifetime on this facit of the hobby alone

Thank you very much for great info. Indeed, it's a great topic to collect. Makes me wonder why there aren't many people collecting them. I guess limited information resources is the main cause. So, we have small number of collectors because of the limited information available, and very little information because there aren't many collectors . Something like that , this is too complicated for my little brain
