I think what I have here is from Egypt and is a Scott #11 or #11a. The difference is in the color: #11 is said to be blue green; #11a is said to be yellow green.

What do you think (I'm leaning toward #11a)? Also, I don't have current catalog value, can you help with that info.?

In any event, I love the bulls eye cancel with a clear date of December 26, 1868.

Seems more yellowish than bluish to me but I do not know for sure nor have a catalog of Egypt except at the library.

Nice cancel, Poste Egiziane Alessandia translates from Italian in Google Language as Postal Egyptian Alexandria.

Gibbons lists 3 colours and states that the Yellowish-Green was issued in July 1869.
Which leaves Pale Blue-Green and Deep Blue-Green and the former fits the bill nicely I'd say.

I don't have a copy to compare unfortunately.

Thanks for the help. I'll have to stop by my library and check out current catalog info. In this case a nice, clear cancel helped to narrow down the choices. In any event, for this particular stamp I don't think there's a wide variance in catalog value, no matter which color it ends up to be.

According to my 2008 Scott Catalog the value of 11 used is $11. 11a used is $17. That being said, next to 11 it says it was printed in 1869, and since yours is cancelled 1868, I'm leaning towards 11a.

Just to clarify. In the Scott catalog...

#11 is yellow green
#11a is blue green

The prices quoted by Scrubatelic are the same in the 2010 Scott catalog.
