Ah, the magic of Christmas.

I mean the Elves. Elves are very magical. Nice too.
Everybody likes Elves. I know I do.

What really amazes me is that Santa visits New Zealand first - it is the middle of summer so he puts on "summer" uniform to start his journey, he visited everyone here then off to Australia, and a quick change of clothes into his winter gear for parts of Russia in the same time zone, and he traverses the world up and down changing his uniform for each country, he must be so worn out by the time he gets to Hawaii he must rest there a few weeks before he travels back to the north pole! Anyone seen a tied old man resting up on a beach in Hawaii on boxing day?

He doesn't just change his clothes, he has to change the team pulling the sled too, for the hotter weather.

(one of my favourite songs, as a kid.)
(OK I admit I still like it now.)

That song is great. Sure glad that Joey found his mom. Santa really came though for him. What a guy!

Ah, I remember that song from when I was a kid too. We used to get a lot of Rolf Harris in Vancouver -- he was there often, like he had a special relationship with the city. In fact, 1971 was B.C.'s centennial year, and he came out with a song released locally, called "Vancouvertown", which was hilarious.

For about three years, from 1988-1991, I also did duty for Canada Post as one of Santa's Helpers.

It was fun, but let me tell you, some of those letters can break your heart, like the kid who wanted a new dad for Christmas because his father had died earlier that year, or the one who wished his mom was able to spend more time with him (turns out she was in jail).

I am sure your sister has a few stories about the letters she read too, David.

Wow, that's heartbreaking! Hopefully there were many uplifting and just plain fun letters as well! It sounds like a wonderful idea...I hope it is still in existence when I have kids!

Posted from Santa Claus, CA. Thought you might like to see the size of the California Redwoods too.

I have been to Sequoia National Park. When you walk up to one of the big trees, you come to a point that you really can't detect the curvature of the trunk and it is like standing next to a wall. Truly an awesome experience. Until you experience the size of the trees for yourself, it is difficult to describe the size to someone. A photo certainly can't do it.

My wife & I got married at "The Santa Clause House" in North Pole, Alaska in 1975. When my children were young they got a personalized letter from Santa every year. They even own 1 sq. in. of North Pole. Of course, we sent a letter to them at The S.C. House so that they would know what to say. They still treasure those letters from Santa and hopefully will continue to pass the tradition down to their children. To hear that they may no longer be to do so is the pitts!
