Since the other thread I started about getting "hand-me-down" stamps from my brothers inspired a lot of nostalgic remarks, I thought I would stoke the fire.

BTW, I thought Love Children would be a more appropriate term for those of us from the 50's, 60's and 70's - I dunno - "Crazy Old Coot" just doesn't sound as nice.

Enjoy!! Jamestown, Mystic, Kenmore and Littleton ALL in one scan!

How about "Old Goat?" Yes those packets do bring back memories.

Holy "Approval Company" Batman!! I found another one in my box of mysteries. H.E. Harris. Note the handwritten price - ahhhh, they were so personal back then!!

I also remember dealing with Calapan Stamp Company which was also in the North East somewhere - I guess the first 13 were taking the rest of us for a philatic ride.

Unfortunately, I don't have glassine envelopes from Calapan, although I have an invoice from them.

As you can guess, me and my family were pretty savy stamp investors - I think some social anthropologist studied people like my family and that's where they came up with PayDay Loans.

Never throw anything out, stick it in a box, crate, suitcase, carton
and send them to auction when full.
It can finance other stamps.

Interesting to note the different stages of deterioration
of the glassine envelopes.
Preservation gurus claim, "avoid glassine like the plague"
for long term storage

So how are the stamps bearing up? they look OK to me
from here. Brittle?

I have a box full of those packets but have not gone through them yet. I have been soaking and sorting all the US stamps. Stamp collecting is a lot of work.

I took a brake and counted all my glassine packets and have 160 of them. One of them had a hundred stamps in it for 10 cents. Nine 0f the packets were US stamps and one of them was a "Harris first; hard to get mint postage due issues".
