A stunning cover.

Wow.

SS Roda, launched in 1904, ex-Navua, purchased from Union Steam Ship Co. of New Zealand in 1927. Scrapped in Egypt 1932.

Is the Greek cancel Piraeus?

Thank you for sharing.

Nice stamp and cancellation! I look out for similar steamship cancellations on covers from Crete.

I'm not sure I understand this one though.

My best guess is that it was posted on the steamship RODI (=RHODES) where Egyptian stamps were applied but only one of them (the one that's still there) was cancelled with the ship's cancellation.

When the ship reached Piraeus in Greece, the remaining stamps were cancelled with the standard Piraeus despatch CDS for some reason (as opposed to a Paquebot cancellation?) and the cover sent to Alexandria. Subsequently the two(?) missing stamps fell off or were removed.

Is there an Egyptian arrival mark on the reverse?

Please correct me if I've got any of this wrong!

It looks like SS Roda, rather than Rodi.

Khedivial Mail Steam Ship and Graving Dock Co. owned the vessel from 1927-32.

Roda is an island in the Nile River near Cairo.

Shame about the missing stamps. Maybe they were Greek?

Wow, lots of comments on this one! I'll try and answer what I can here:
S/S RODA easily seen when zoomed in.
I'm unable to make out much of the CDS, looks like the clerk took three hits to get it right ;)
I don't see any gum residue or discoloration where there might have been previous stamps...
There is a Alexandria stamp on the back dated 15JL29 9.30P
Thanks for the interest!
