The latest BNA Topics, Official Journal of the British North American Philatelic Society, contains the society's 2009 Consolidate Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
In 2009, the Society received $29,646 from member dues. Surprisingly (to me), it also had interest income of $25,740. According to the balance sheet, the Society has investment holdings of $645,922.
BNAPS has total assets of $786,109.
WOW!

Hello Kirk
I have been a member of the BNAPS now for a little over 40 years and have found the articles in their journals quite interesting.
I guess since they are specifically addressing British North American philatelic subjects is the reason they can hold a good following and keep a good balance in the books (?)
Sure hope they can keep this up.

Quote: LB1: What do they do with their assets ? Apparently, they have a market portfolio of stocks, bonds, etc. Only about $25,000 was cash on hand. The rest was labeled "investments." I assume other large societies, such as APS, have substantial treasuries too, but I didn't expect BNAPS' to be so large. KirkS [edit to fix fat fingers] |

BUJUTSU:
Yes, you and I have discussed BNAPS before. As you may recall, in my first year of membership, I received only one "quarterly" journal. This year has been much better. I've received the BNA Topics on the regular schedule.
BNA Topics is a fine publication. The articles are very in-depth and well-researched. To be honest, they're a little too "scientific" for my tastes. But then, I'm relatively new to collecting Canada.
I've decided not to renew my membership at the end of this year. I think I will use the money to join RPSC for a year or two and compare the two societies. Perhaps when I am more advanced in my collecting, I will return to BNAPS.

Hi Kirk I have also been a member of the RPSC for almost as long as the BNAPS. You will find that the "Royal" is more oriented to WW articles compared to the BNAPS which is strictly North American. Both journals are blessed with very fine articles. I am a 'lifer' with both of these great societies and have never looked back. Chimo Bujutsu |
