I mentioned that in my post... That style of CDS was used until about 1872-3. More specifically, that one was used until late 1870.

And think a bit outside of the box on the cover I posted... It ties into what I'm talking about regarding figuring out covers :)

Only found on Orange Browns. Cover is from 1851

No problem :)

I used it as an example to show how cancellations can be used to date a cover. Here's a pic of the cover in color. In fact, another way to prove that this is an early use is that the small Boston "PAID" is in red. This cover was used barely more than 2 weeks after issue from Boston to Windsor, VT. Windsor is a small town today but in 1851 it was one of the largest towns in Vermont.

Thanks guys, but that's a terrible pic of it, the cover is actually a really nice blue and has great color, that was taken with an iPhone... yes, I do need a scanner!
