Hi,
If a copy of the APS (American Philatelic Society) journal for October is available (maybe the locallibrary)read the article by Peter Butler (Page 910). He discusses removing self stick stamps using a product called Bestine and another method using a citrus based air freshener.
I haven't tried either method yet but I plan to.

Hi Ryan,
How did you find the article? I am an APS member. I could not find any link on the APS site.

I found it with a simple Google search (Bestine adhesive stamps) - I was trying to find the site where I originally heard of the process, and the APS article was the first hit!
Given that the URL contains the word "guest" and "1010" for October 2010, it's possible that this will be available online only for this month.

Interesting article..thanks. As an aside, I ditched the bloated Adobe PDF reader and installed Foxit pdf reader. (to read that Cinderella CDRom) Not sure if that was the culprit, but I lost my "Favourites" file. I have ditched that and installed "Sumatra" pdf reader looks and feels good good |

Kirks Thanks for bringning the you tube in this thread. I'll just get some fuel if I need to peel of stamps and go back watch the youtude again if I scrap a stamp. This guy work like a pro, he mastered the technic. Daniel |

Very intersting article. I just printed it and I'm going to give it a go. I'm going to use the citrus method first and see how that does. Has anyone did this since the initial post? |

Hi Kirks,
I knew I saw a thread about this on the board. Thanks for reminding me where it is. I had read the thread and watched the YouTube video.
I think what might be new in this article is the use of a citrus based air freshener. That should not have the chemical vapor concerns of the other method(s).

I watched that video mentioned. And the gentleman was using a product called "Feulite". Did some checking up on this stuff turns out to be a petroleum based backpacking stove fuel available in NZ or Australia. A similar product in the US is Coleman stove fuel or naphtha. Or possibly rubber cement solvent seems appropriate. Is there any problem getting this stuff on a stamp? Looks like it would evaporate fast like Benzene. Obviously wouldn't be using it near an open flame. Maybe I should just buy some and give it a try. |

vacuum man... the fuellite equivalent is white gas, which people use for camp stoves and such. |

Wouldn't any air freshner have an oil base? That wouldn't be cool. It would stain the stamps. |
