For those who use mounts. What do you do to minimize mount scraps?

I try to buy the pre-cut ones so I don't have that problem!

Pre-cut are not economical for me, and do not ocme in all the sizes I need. I save all pieces of mounting that could be used in the future. I slit my mount packages across the top and down the side. I then slip partial strips in on top of the label, within the packaging so I know to use that one first. For pieces to small to use, I toss.

In your situation, you probably have no other choice (than to buy the strips). I've not done this myself, but I understand there are collectors who carefully take a mount strip and carefully cut them on a paper cutter to equal size using exact measurements so as to optimize the number of mounts they can realize from a mounting strip. Of course, that's got to be measured against the space placement area that's preprinted in an album so they don't look too oversized or undersized.

I guess it's by experience, but I've gotten to where I don't waste that much of a strip of mounts. Except, of course, when I mis-measure or mis-cut because I'm watching a football game. Even then I'm usually OK unless I've already licked.

I keep my full and partial strips in the file system I modeled after the ShoGard system.

Have you thought of taping 2 or 3 or 4 short pieces of mount together from behind so as to enclose an entire stamp?

Sorry!

Hi

I only use strips and a ShowGard guillotine. I usually have a little piece left over that is too small for anything so I toss
them. Otherwise I put the strip remainder back in the package.

give them to the kids to play with, its like some strange magical sticker they can put things in or stick to their legos, picture frames for their doll house ect...

then run the vacuum where they played that day, and its all taken care of...
