Greetings,

I've been a lurker for quite some time, getting back in to the hobby a few months ago. I've learned quite a bit from this forum and, hopefully, can get some help with this 2c Washington Schermack perforated stamp.

I can't really tell if it's a Type I, Ia, II, IV, or VA. It was previously identified as Scott 532, but that doesn't seem likely, given that the toga rope is quite solid. There is no watermark, and I cannot tell if it's offset printing or not (can't feel the difference and cannot measure width of stamp). I think it might be type VA, making this a 534.

Any comments?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, Russ. I did take a look at the sites before, which is how I found out about the toga rope. The nose makes it look like a VA, but the precancel is interfering with the other areas to check.

I'm almost certain that it isn't a Type I, IV, or V. Also, it is highly unlikely that it's a 1a, because the right ribbon line is not solid (and it would make this stamp an extreme rarity).

The width seems to be about 18.75, which doesn't tell if it's flat plate or offset printing.

I'm still leaning towards a 534. It's an interesting stamp, mainly because of the perf.

Thanks, again.

Joe
