Quote: the ones you got from Harry affixed with Glue Stic Excellent question -- I didn't even consider that he might be mailing me with used unused stamps |

In my religion a stamp that has not been cancelled when passed through the mail has not realized it's destiny and will not be admitted into the fifth level of postal nirvana. It is out duty to ensure this happens. Use glue! |

Quote: OK - now do we need a thread on soaking and removing the adhesive from gluestick stuck stamps? No problem there Stampgal. Put a piece of paper over the stamps, get your iron and set it to some non-burning temperature. Iron the paper until the stamp is warm. Peel it off gently! I find the iron works for some U.S. self adhesives to. |

Moonbird ~ someone once told me that partially stuck stamps can be removed cleanly by sticking them in the freezer for a few hours (longer the better I guess), then gently peel them off. I have never tried it though, but now that you mention it, maybe I will experiment with it. |

And wouldn't it be great for the Post Office's image to spend $38,000 investigating and prosecuting you for a 44-cent fraud |

I agree Kirk. They would be better served by spending $38,000 investigating why millions of stamps go uncancelled every week causing the public to use Gluesticks !
If the Postal service, any Postal Service, are too lazy to give me a cancel, then I am too lazy to go out and buy a new stamp.
Period.

Also, are you aware of these so-called "invisible cancels" that are said to be out there that allow re-used stamps to be so noted by the postal sorting machines that if enough of them are found from one area Postal Authorties would go knocking on your door with threats to cease and desist or face the penalty? |

They won't do it Kirk...my nephew is a postal inspector..hes too busy with the video camera chasing post office workers out on disability..it would be almost impossible to get a conviction on using a gluestick..i confessed to him and he did not shoot me..i think he has as much fun catching the disability guys lifting weights or roofing houses as I do with my stamps !! |

Oh boy, another thing to collect, invisible cancels!
I think I must have some around here somewhere.
I just can't find them though.
Maybe we should work at decoding those phosphorescent bar codes? |

I cannot believe that any of the worlds major Postal Services would go to the trouble, not to mention the time and money, of using such a device. Surely, surely it would be more cost effective in the long run to cancel those stamps instead of resorting to such underhanded and, well frankly, quite ridiculous measures. It is things like this that help us to understand why the Postal services are so much in debt. We should all go on a 'WE WANT OUR STAMPS CANCELLED' drive and try to teach them what they should be doing. A petition maybe ? Londonbus1 |
