This design was issued 1870-1879. There are 3 posible Scott numbers, 148, 159 and 186. Based on the color, I would suspect it is 148. It does have a straight edge on bottom, small tear upper right and nubbed perfs on left. Catalog value for 148 is $35, 159 $20, 186 $27.50. Based on condition, fair market value would be 20-25% of catalog value.

It's got the secret mark so it's a 159 or a 186. The way to tell is to check the paper.

A 159 is on "hard" paper and a 186 is on "soft" paper. The easy way to tell is to hold the stamp up to a strong light. If you see a sort of "woven" or "diamond" pattern in the paper, then it's soft paper, scott # 186, if not, then it's hard paper, scott #159.

I always liked the design of the 6c Large Banknotes myself :)

Nice stamp to have. However, to be honest, I would say the retail value is much lower than 20%-25% of catalog because of all the major faults. In addition to the small tear mentioned, the bottom has been trimmed (it is NOT a natural straight edge). All the perfs on the left side are either short or missing. A stamp in this condition, even as a classic, would be considered at best a 2nd as it has multiple major defects, and at worst a respectable space filler. I would say 10% would be a much closer estimate of average retail value. Just my opinion.
