hello again all

i was looking through my 634's to see if I could find a 634a but noticed in my scotts that there was also a different color as noted as a 634b
again it may just be my hopeful thinking but I found a much darker carmine the my other copies of the 634's
i was hoping to see if this stamp on the right may be a 634b.
i did later notice that it stated that there are shade differences in the carmine but am not sure if this is a carmine lake instead of a different shade of carmine

in looking at this post the stamp in question does appear darker than the posted scan here

thanks for all and any help

dan

Carmine over inked (under wiped). If you look at the margins you will see that there is inking on them. Although the scan does nit show it well, I would guess that this inking is basicall parallel lines. In the Stickney rotary press a metallic wiper blade acts like a squeegie to remove excess ink. As the wear or become mis-adjusted they produce this effect. The carmine lake is a much darker shade approaching a maroon.
