Can anyone tell me more about this stamp, and a possible value?
Thank You,

I'm still pretty new, but I'll give it a shot.

Looks like Scott# 720 issued June 16, 1392.
It could be either Deep Violet or Light Violet.
I'm not even going to guess at the color. That's way beyond me.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the holes mean it is considered a 'perfin'.
My understanding is that holes were put in the stamps, usually as a name or initials, to discourage theft.

I wonder how they knew we would have a President Washington in 1392.

Hi katers, welcome!

smauggie beat me to making a joke about the wrong year.

I'm not a US expert but that doesn't look like a rare stamp. It is the perfin, as barstoll says, that may add value to it.
(PERForated INitialS or INscriptionS (see Germany).

A nice web site for The perfin Society:
http://www.angelfire.com/pr/perfinsoc/

Search on here Stamp Community also with the word perfin to find lots more info and links.

There are collectors on here who have books on these also.

If the stamp is still on the whole envelope, DO NOT REMOVE IT.
Used stamps on "cover" (original and complete envelope) are more
valuable than used stamps on cut corners or totally removed.

That said, this stamp on cover is not going to be very rare
unless the cover itself is addressed to a historical figure or
mailed to, through, or from a place of historic interest.

Perfins on cover should remain that way in order to identify the
source and perfin .

A good example of why to keep perfins on cover.

The perfin on this stamp looks like the small CE/Co perfin used by the Commonwealth Edison Company of Chicago from 1902 to 1965. It's given a rarity rating of "E", just one step less common than "F", the most common rating used.
