I just started rescuing my early/mid US collection from Bad crystal mounts. The mounts themselves were not the culprits but the very tiny bits of tape used to keep the stamp from sliding in the loose mount designs are noticeable stamp killers.

anyway I was all excited about my new/used Scott national, I was going to be proud of how full I was going to make it!

SILLY ME, I had not even a inkling of the amount of stamps and variations in the national album! when I finally opened it up to compare my White Ace collection to my New National I had to page something like 30 pages to get to my first 1909 MNH stamp...

I had no Idea!! why did no one warn me

I got some serious work to do, er stamps to find!

There's always the option of forgetting what you've got and start anew with something like the newest country in the world:

Curaçao is World's Newest Country

Destination Poised for Tourism Growth as Autonomous Island-Nation

WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao is now an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands as of October 10, 2010. Curaçao has been one of five island territories of the Netherlands Antilles, which has had its seat in Willemstad, Curaçao, and no longer exists as of October 10, 2010.

That would make for a thin album if you start with just the stamps issued since October 10 this year.

Of course, there are the 33 countries which came into existance since 1990 with the fall of the Soviet Union and the break up of Yugoslavia.

Just a couple of thoughts.......but, they are probably not on your radar.

Interesting, but right now my stamp collecting plate is like my thanksgiving dinner, my eyes were bigger then my stomach. as a newer collector I'm still trying to find my sweetspot and reign in the other areas. I still seem to be stampeding off in all directions.

I like the "type sets" that are starting to gain popularity.

Collecting one of each stamp design for your album, as opposed
to collecting one of each PLUS many, many duplicates based on
how many holes they are perfed with, obscure watermarks, and
microscopic secret marks that no one will ever lean far enough
into your album to see. The type set is short enough that you
might actually have the time and money to complete a set in
a lifetime! I forgot the site, but there are threads on the subject.
