Well done Gord, sorry I have no information on them, but I reckon they are rather cool!
UPdate : I just spied "H E Harris" in the selvedge the huge US stamp dealer.
BTW just as a teaser, Two of those presidents died on the very same day.
(from my useless information compendium)

I remember getting a new album in the late 50's and buying the presidents, world flags and world coat of arms stamps from H. E. Harris. All the old Harris albums had a pape for the presidents in front of the U.S. section. They also had a intro paragraph at the start of each country with a space on the left for the flag and a space on the right for the coat of arms. I haven't seen a Harris album for many years but they might still do it that way. |

I think that from JQ Adams forward the images are taken from actual photographs. Or daguerrotypes etc, as the case may be. |

They definitely are H.E. Harris & Co. I remember as a kid having an "Adventurer" and/or "Independence" album and they had spaces for the Flags and the Presidents. Of course, the set shown is much older than I remmeber if Eisenhower was the last President depicted. I forget if they were included with the album or if you paid a token amount 25 cents or so for the set. They were also popular in five and dime stores (i.e. Woolworth's, Kresge's, etc.) in the 1960's-1970's. I think H.E. Harris & Co. (now a division of Whitman Publishing) still sells them, as they seem to be included in their current Indepedence Album "kit": http://www.whitmanbooks.com/Default...ductID=4HRS6An interesting side note: I was at a gift shop recently and saw a plate with all of the Presidents depicted, using designs somewhat similar to these labels. I found it interesting that only beginning with Eisenhower did any President even crack the slightest smile or grin in his expression. (I guess it wasn't "Presidential" in the old days to smile.) |

Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on July 4, 1826, fifty years to the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Hey, I remember getting those when I was a kid.
In the late '70's - early '80's, Scholastic Book Club used to sell stamp collecting kits in their Book club they sent to grade schools. Any of the US kits had an album, a stamp packet and hinges. Almost all of them came with the US Presidents Sheet. I remember it being H.E. Harris as those were the US albums that were sold. The format of the 'stamps' was a bit different than what is shown here. It was narrower than it was tall, but the images are identical. I should have a few of the singles and possibly the albums stashed somewhere. |

I remember those pages from my stamp albums as a kid. As the Presidents end with Lyndon Johnson, it must date to the late 1960's, which would be in line with the pages as I remember them. As said earlier in this post, I think the company still produces the labels ... not sure how recent a printing though. I just wonder if they've produced one for President Obama since he took office? |

I know this thread ended a while ago but... 'God Bless the President' sure, however the artist who painted the portraits posted by Londonbus1 does not get my blessing. Which leads me to ask 'What are the least convincing portraits featuring on US or GB stamps?' |

Yes, they are a bit strange-looking aren't they.
But as they are only seals, it was probably too expensive to have something special done.
Maybe someone has some Presidents looking worse than these !? |
