Without giving the second stamp more than a glance, I'd go for the second one (assuming it passes muster on your basic due diligence).

I own the 76, apparently the "75" is not a 75 but a 76 as well. And the price difference is tremendous.. So I won't buy it.

I don't look at these stamps very often, because they are so far above my budget. But if I understand it correctly, the only difference between the #75 and #76 is the color, the #75 being "red brown" and the #76 being "brown".

I have a 2002 Soctt Catalog and was comparing the values to the 2010 Catalog and find that in those 8 years, the #75 went from $450 to $600 (33.3% increase); whereas the #76 went from $110 to $150 (36.3% increase).

What I found even more interesting is that no one mentioned the #76a a "black brown" version of the same stamp. The 2002 value for that stamp was "only" $160; the 2010 value rose to $350 (that's a whopping 118.7% increase)! Maybe the 76a is what you need to keep an eye out for.

3 pints and a tip at the pub = $20.00, gone in 2 hours. $17.00 for something you can enjoy for as long as you'd like ? I'd say it's a big win.

Wow, you got a #76 for 11.3% of its $150 current catalog value! Never knew you could get such "classics" for such a reasonable price. I thought most of those early stamps went for closer to catalog. Just goes to show that there are good buys out there. Fortunate for the buyers, unfortunate for the sellers, though. But it's all supply and demand, I suppose.

not $150.00, this 76 is VG condition. CV $37.50.
I paid 1/2 of the CV for this condition.

Thanks for clarifying. Now it makes a bit more sense. I didn't think there were many who would luck out on a VF copy for that much off catalog value. Still, it is a nice stamp.
