I have a hard time determining the types of this issue. Is this a type Ia or type II? Thanks for any help.

You'll need to start here and have your stamp ready to look at with a 10x or greater magnifying glass.

Echizento,

Another site I think you'll find useful is: http://www.askphil.org/W-F/02wn.htm

Once I've narrowed the universe of possibilities based on perforation, watermark and printing type, I find a high resolution scan to be helpful in being identifying the design intracacies that define the type.

Good luck!

Steve

The first thing you must do is determine the issue this stamp belongs in. The perforation gauge and whether it has a watermark or not. (I guess the most basic is to first determine whether it is engraved or offset).

If I remember right, the type Ia occurs in only two situations. One is excessively rare and the other scarce.

Now that I look at it more closely, I agree with chasa. It just has that offset look to it. If it is Type VII, it is Scott #528B
