Just thought I would note that today is the 215 anniversary of the birth of Rowland Hill Dec 3, 1795.
Edit I guess I should mention that Rowland Hill introduced the first postage stamp in 1840 Great Britain

I'm surprised that Royal Mail [UK] aren't celebrating it with a plethora of Philatelic gimmicks !

They just love to celebrate odd numbers.

The Master.

London, 5 February 1862

Dear Sir,
Here is a small matter, semi_official semi-private,
in wich I am sure you will permit me to ask for your kind assistance.
My father, sir Rowland Hill, who as you may suppose watches with much
interest the adoption throughout the world of his plans of postal
reform, has a collection of the postage stamps of all nations, which
collection I am desirous of rendering as complete as possible and with this view I take the liberty of asking whether - supposing it now possible to obtain them - you could favour him with specimens
(unobliterated) of the postage stamps used in France during the time of the Republic.[...]
I am, Sir, your obedt servant.
Pearson Hill
(Private Secretary to Sir R. Hill)

I can see that statue from my desk
When I first started this job I went into the building behind the statue as it was the postal museum. I only had a passing interest in stamps at the time and wish it was still there now.

Here is a recent Rowland Hill apparently engraved by Slania.
