I am not a U. S. collector but if I were at this stage of the game I would own a set of the Zepps..either used or mint never hinged..i am not a mint never hinged snob by any means..but for that kind of cash layout yes..i would not want a hinged set...so many U.S. collectors spend a small fortune on their collection and then..Stop short of the zepps ..no no..when you open the book to show someone..let them see the zepps..they dont cost 8,000 like they did in the 1980's I saw a mint never hinged set change hands at our club for 1,400 and a handshake !!

OH MY GOODNESS!! Great advice, Phil! I just figured Zepps would be something that I would never be able to reach--but maybe, someday!

Gussy.....

If someone really wanted some but mint were just beyond the budget.....one could find a really nice set of used.....but I think my choice would be nice on cover set. Here's a look at my 50center:

I believe it's because the zepps were issued during the depression, had a high face value, $.65, $1.30 and $2.60, and collectors didn't buy them up. Technically, the 50-center shown is C18, the Century of Progress Issue and not one of the Graf Zeppelin Issue (C13-15).

In another thread, Gussyboy was asking ( in a way about zepps) so I got them out of the safe and put them on show. I didn't notice the little bit of curl until after I shot them. I put photos in the National Album :) instead of the real thing.

Hmm, Not really sure on book value today. At one point, the value was way up there, but that was when you divided the book by several times to get an actual price. I do believe they are VF or better, Still all OG,NH, so the figures in the above posting by Tom are probably close. I would like to get a used set someday to actually put into the US album.

Wow, I think all 5 of those in a set would make
an awesome collection. They certainly tie together
nicely.

The German Zep is a nice kicker for the set. A pretty
stamp too. However the detail and design aren't nearly
as intricate as the US Zeps.

Would be neat to see a cover mailed between Europe and
U.S. that had a Zep example from each side on it!

I have my eye on the Zepp's. I will have a set soon. I have almost completed my U.S. Airmails and the Zepps will be the prize.
