Is there a way to distinguish between #70 and #78 other than color?

Reason I ask is that these two stamps were identified by others as one of each, but I can't see any difference, and the 1847USA site lists a number of color variations.

I'm getting myself more confused. According to my Scott catalog, #70 is "red lilac," and #78 is "lilac." The Mystic catalog and website also say that, but the pictures they use appear to me to redder on the #78.

If anyone has expertized examples of these, I'd like to see pictures.

This was on VSC about a year ago, when someone posted their 70/78's. Some beautiful stamps, but I highly doubt that it will be helpful:

This one, was a sale that Langs had on ebay about a year ago, and the colors are a lot more vivid than the other one, and probably too bright for a good comparison:

Hope this helps........Ray

Thanks. Those are some beauties with all the different color varieties. The 70 in the first sample looks to my eye to be the same as the 78 in the second group, and the same as my stamps. Aaaarrrrghhhh!
