I had read in a previous post that precancels in other than black ink command a premium, as they are typically less common.

Here is a Scott #553 from East Liverpool, Ohio, where the precancel is in purple ink. Is this an identifiable variety that would have a value above one in black ink?

Any info. would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I looked this up in both of my old precancel catalogues there is no mention of color differences for East Liverpool, Ohio. It could be that purple is standard color from this PO.

Thanks for the info. This stamp was mounted on a page with several other precancels from Ohio in that series and the color of this particular stamp stood out from the others, so that's why I posted it. It's the only one I have come across in a color other than black, although I know there are a number of other ones documented. (Something to keep an eye out for, I guess.)
