There are at least 20 or so catalogues for precancels & if you put them together you still will not have a complete catalogue of precancels, precanceling is immense.
My catalog and handbook for Alabama precancels can give you some idea about what stamps are available, how they can be organized, nomenclature, and values: http://www.precancels.com/literature/Alabama.pdf It is BIG, allow time to download. CharlieA
Those "free" precancel album pages are a great resource. I've downloaded the entire 50 States and Territories to my PC and use it as a reference guide, but only selectivly print what pages are needed for the moment. The PDF is searchable, so the entire set of pages come in handy when I come across some precancels that are difficult to identify or perhaps only have a few legible letters in the town name. I then go to those files and I can search across all precancels for a given state and come up with all of the possibilities that could match the stamp I'm looking at. It works pretty well. It also helps to isolate the precancel types that were used for a particular city or town.
If you're into dated precancels, they have another set of album pages for those varieties as well, although I must admit that I haven't as yet looked at that resource all that thoroughly.
I'd hesitate to buy precancel catalogs right now, as it is my understanding that new/revised edition(s) are in the works and I'd prefer to wait until the newer information is published.
