Can anyone identify these Austrian items for me? All were posted from Cerhowitz which is now in the Czech Republic; the envelope and postcard in 1888 and the letter sheet in 1891.

The 2kr postcard is H&G 48 issued in 1983. This has the heading in German and Czech.

The 5kr envelope is one of H&G 42 to 45 issued from 1890 to 1894 depending on whether the paper is white or buff, the bottom flaps on the back are under or over the side flaps, and there is or is not a round colourless embossed seal on the top flap!

The 5kr letter card is H&G 27 issued in 1890 again with the heading in German and Czech.

H&G is the Higgins and Gage World Postal Stationery Catalog Section 1 last updated in 1982.

Nigelc,

Thanks!

The bottom flap on the 5kr envelope is under the side flaps and there is a round embossed seal on the top flap; however, the postmarks on both front and back are clearly "88" so that doesn't fit within the issue period you cited.

I have another 5kr envelope also posted in 1888 with the same flap arrangement but without the embossed emblem.

Sorry Steve, my mistake! You're quite right.

The envelopes should be H&G 40 size 148mm x 118mm (with the seal) and H&G 40a (without the seal) both issued in 1883.

There are Austrian postal stationery catalogues from Netto (ANK) and Ascher that may help more but I don't have them.

Nigelc,

No need to apologize -- I'm much farther along in being able to describe them now, thanks to you. Appreciate the help.
