I believe this would be defined as a duplex cancel. Although the cover isn't very exciting (except for it's age), it's one of the few 19th century covers I have seen with a city/state AND month/day/year AND time of day all encircled in the first part of the cancellation.

Anyone know if there any particular name for this type of cancel?

Yep, I would call it a duplex,
and a perfect example to boot.

The "killer" cancels the stamp,
and the CDS gives clear indication of postal despatch history.

Don't you love the address. The address almost gives directions to recipient. I guess the mailer was taking no chances.

I agree. Interestingly, I tried to google search the street name and came up empty; probably a street that is long gone thanks to urban renewal since the date of the cover.

As for that duplex cancel pix, I've seen it posted before. In fact, I just looked it up and found that post office is still around ... it can't be more than 20 min. from where I live and never realized it before. (I'll have to check it out one of these days.)
