Those are nice examples. ABNCo. have done some fantastic engraved stamps and cinderellas through the years. In fact, I have been looking at some foreign stamps with particularly nice engravings only to find the ABNCo. name at the bottom. The Eaton Fine Letter Papers examples that you show have been cited before on SCF in this link on other ABNCo. products: https://goscf.com/t/9570 |

Boy, those images stir my juices. Just makes you wish they were postage stamps. I seem to be having a senior moment - would someone remind me what poster stamps are? |

Cynical - poster stamps are a more prestigious branch of Cinderellas, and usually better designed than things like easter and xmas seals. They were sometimes affixed to letters as sort of a decoration but more often as a way of promoting something. Think of them as correspondence bumper stickers. A World's Fair for example would usually have poster stamps available - freely or for sale - to promote the event. Many religious and other organizations used poster stamps to promote their activities in one way or another. Today printed or rubber stamped logos and promotions have to a large extent replaced them but not entirely. All countries have used them and there are always lots for sale on ebay. many Canadian and US philatelic organizations still produce them for shows and exhibitions. Here's one on sale. Moonbird: I thank you for that erudite response. I never gave up hope that someone would provide me with an explanation. |

Kia Ora (Hello) from down under in NZ. Just saw the posting for the Eaton's poster stamps. Very interesting as I'm currently selling a set of 10 on Trade Me here in NZ, which closes off in an hour. |
