Hello, I was hoping someone could help me identify this stamp. It is on a semi transparent thin paper. I also have a green one with the number 6 in the upper left corner. I have a "germany" scott book but could not find it. Thank you for any help you can provide. Jon

My wild and unfounded guess would be that this is a postage stamp created for use in the province of Saxony during Russian occupation in 1945-6.

jderke, your red stamp is as smauggie stated from the Province of Saxony under Russian occupation. If it doesn't have a watermark it is Scott #13N14 but if it does, it is #13N16. The green value is one number less than each of the above numbers.

jderke, in a Scott catalogue that contains Germany, you need to look at the end of the German Democratic Republic listings and there you will see an area entitled "Issued Under Russian Occupation". Saxony Province is one of the sub-titles.

I love the designs on these Saxony stamps,
clear and precise, with a certain appeal, great colours
anybody aware of details, designer etc?

Michel Germany Specialized says the designer was Gebauer. Who that is, I don't know. There were some Gebauers from Germany involved in Art Deco pottery, but on a brief search I couldn't find anybody related to graphic design & art around WWII.

There are at least 3 paper, 5 perforation, 4 watermark, and 3-4 color varieties of these issues. When you say "different", how do you mean?

The original one shown on this thread is a Mi 91 variety from 21 Feb 1946. Yours are Mi 85 and 86 varieties from 17 Dec 1945. Though they look similar, there were slight design changes between the two sets.
